Newlands Project |
This project is named in honour of John A.R. Newlands 1837 – 1898
John A.R. Newlands proposed the Law of Octaves in 1864. This law was the basis for Mendeleev’s Periodic Law in 1869 . Newlands gained little recognition in his lifetime for this idea. In fact he was ridiculed for his revolutionary idea. It was his Periodic Law that caused chemists to consider a new SCHEME.
This new scheme led chemistry to many new discoveries
The following stories will be presented in this project
-
Facts and data of the Chemical Elements
-
The development of the periodic table
-
The discovery, isolation and identification of the elements
-
The development of atomic theory
-
Life and times of the men and women involved in these discoveries
